Seeing this brief, I knew straight away that I wanted to make a dog. I have always been a dog person and I know I would enjoy working on one.
The problem was that I didn't know where to take this. What type of dog should I make? What is it carrying? What is its role in the storyline? What artistic style should I approach?
With all this in mind, I started looking for some references. My first idea was doing something scary, maybe a dog with robotic elements inside of it as well, but that idea was scrapped after I talked to my professor Katarina, who let me know that the animal has to be a real one that you would see in real life.
With that in mind, I decided to turn my idea 180 degrees and approach the cute spectrum. What is cute? Well, all dogs are cute, but personally, I think Huskys are way high up on the cuteness pyramid. As for what it is carrying, I thought flowers would be a nice choice, making it a flower-carrying dog. What is its role in the society it lives in? Well, the way I imagined it is that those people would have celebrations, and would end up sending this dog to greet the guests and offer them flowers.
To help me visualize my idea I ended up making a quick sketch.
I also decided to make it a puppy, not a very young one, and not fully an adult, but somewhere in the middle. I am excited to start working on this project, the next step being the blackout in Zbrush, which I haven't personally done before, but it is a workflow that I do wanna learn and will help a lot in the future.
