week 17

For this task, I was required to produce two different drawings, one in warm tones and one in cold tones. One very important aspect was picking my colour palettes carefully and figuring out which colours were going to be used for the shadows, which ones for the mid-tones and which for the highlights. Having that already settle from the get-go helped me not have to constantly think about it while shading.

Another useful tip was using one of the mid-tome colours for my sketch. That spared me from having to erase my sketch before shading.

For the warm one, I started with a quick sketch, being mindful of the proportions and also the angle. Semi-profile drawings are one of the hardest to do, having so many factors to think of while constructing the face.

The shading part was very intuitive, finding myself picking the colours naturally. To get a more lifelike effect, I shaded in a more circular motion, making the colours blend better as well.

I really love how this came together. I feel like its very expressive, and the colours ended up poping and working well with eachother.

For the cold tones one, I was actually able to get the sketch done in class, and also add some shading, which I was really happy about. One of my problems is being too slow while working, mostly because I am a perfectionist. This is a habit that I have been trying to leave behind me ever since starting my studies at university. I have made tons of progress surrounding that, but there is still work to do.
Surprisingly, for this drawing, I ditched the whole measuring process, still having some axis present, but not over obsessing over them. I let my hand do its thing and trusted my skills, and I really like how that worked out.

At the end of the class, the drawing ended up looking too dull, so the next step was adding some more colour and contrast to it.

Also, at this stage, I realized I was using way too much pink, so I ended up tuning that down a little.

After some feedback from my teacher, I added some more transitional shades and skin details.

I am really happy with how this turned out, the only thing that i think it needed some more attention being the neck area.
