Sculpting parts of the fireplace in zbrush

Sculpting the fireplace in Zbrush was extremely fun and intuitive. I tried to add as many details as I could, while also inducing the materials that the objects are made out of.

The wood parts of the fireplace have a lot of details sculpted into them, that I have done without looking at any references.. It was extremely exciting drawing whatever came into my head on the spot.

I also tried to induce the feeling that these forms have been sculpted in wood, with sharp edges around them, just how they would look in real life.

On the marble parts of the fireplace, I tried to give the object but also to the detailing a soft look, with no indents of any sort, looking at reference and seeing that marble fireplace have usually quite perfect surfaces.

The stairs were quite easy to make, and I really like how they ended up looking. I have used the orb brushes that Katarina linked to, but also the techniques that Scott showed us for the indents.

For the skull, I realized that it would be way easier to make a low poly version in max and then work my way to the final result in Zbrush, so that is what I did.

Week 23: Virtual Tour - The National Portrait Gallery

For this task, we had to take a virtual tour of the National Portrait Gallery and choose a colour palette from one of the paintings to use in our personal drawing. The colour palette that I personally liked the most was the one from the 18th Century Galleries, with very vibrant colours, dominated mainly by oranges and shades of greens and blues.
As a result, I decided to make the portrait of a ginger woman.
The first step was getting right the angle of the face and adding the guidelines accordingly.

After that, I started sketching the features of the face and slowly making my way to the final sketch.

When all of that was done, I slightly erased the sketch and started colouring each element, using different shades of every colour to get a realistic effect.

With the portrait finished, I added a turquoise background that matched the colour of her eyes, adding a very nice dimension to the drawing.

I really like how this drawing turned out to look like and I will for sure experiment with different colour palettes in the future!

Week 22: Composition and Compositional Principles: Landscape

For this task, I have decided to make a landscape in colour with a lake from a park.

After some thought of how I was going to approach the composition, I started making the sketch. I wanted to give this drawing a very unique feel, so I chose my colour palette carefully and also taking that into consideration while making the sketch.

After the sketch was done I started colouring the environment, making my way from the back to the front. I wanted it to have a more abstract look, so I decided to make everything more blocky, the objects not having such well-defined shapes.

After adding some very dark shadows and very bright highlights, the drawing ended up looking very vibrant, completing the look and form that I was aiming for.

If I were to change something about this drawing, that would be adding more details in the front part.

Texturing the Angel

Since the Angel's character doesn't have that many clothing pieces or accessories, I had more time to focus on the skin and getting...
