Starting the sculpt for my Street Fighter

After choosing the concept, it was time to start working on the sculpt. At this stage, having the experience of working on my last character, I am way more confident and fast when sculpting the body and the face.

Something that is always really helpful is having good ref to look at while sculpting. For this purpose, I chose China Mcclain as reference for the face.

I will try my best to get the likeness as close to her as I can. As in for the body, I will try to keep the proportions from the concept as much as I can.

The sculpt still needs a lot of work, but I m happy with what I have for now. I think what I have achieved with the face is somehow similar to China so it is definitely a good base.

Finding the concepts for my final major projects

In comparison with the last term, this term we have complete freedom over what projects we want to make. These are my final major projects, which should reflect the best abilities that I have acquired over the three years of my studies. Having to write my own briefs feels very liberating, but intimidating at the same time. After all, these projects will be the highlight of my portfolio, and considering that it's the time I start looking and applying for jobs, they truly are an important task.

Before I started looking for inspiration, I needed to figure out what my portfolio should include and keeping in mind the career path I want to pursue, how it should be tailored. Having completed my projects from the last term, I am quite happy with how my realistic approach turned out, and I did really enjoy that particular workflow. So, at this stage, I am quite sure that realism is the style I want to pursue in the future. Even with that, I still want to keep an open mind and explore other styles as well with these projects, so that I would cover a bigger range of potential job opportunities.

After a lot of thinking and browsing through Artstation and Pinterest, I thankfully found the concepts I wanted to pursue. Through my final major projects, I want to demonstrate a variety of different skill sets and show diversity and adaptability, which will make me employable in the future, so I am choosing to do characters that would reflect that and that would challenge me in different aspects.

For my first character, I will be making a Street ninja (female character). For this project, I will take inspiration from the concepts of the artist Ye Shuhang from Artstation.  This character is set in a contemporary urban setting. I want to make her look grounded in her environment, having a skater/urban look to her, while also having the fighter aspect to her, with the katana. I want her to look skilled and capable, so I will have elements that will induce that. As for the style, I will be going for realism. As for a type of game that I would see her be a part of, Watchdogs 2 is a very good example.

My second character will be The WW1 Orc. For this project, I will be following the concept of the artist Nikita Orlov titled “Ork. 1917” The goal of this project is to recreate the concept in 3D as accurately as possible. As for the style, I will be going for a more stylized look, to match the aesthetic of the concept. I might do some changes and add some things to the character, to make him more historically accurate. Since this is an orc and not a human, I will be focusing on getting the features right and believable for this type of creature, and keeping the grim look from the concept.

The concept of my third character will be an original one, ” The fallen angel” (male character). This angel has been poisoned by sin and as a punishment, his wings were cut off. He is going to be a more mature guy, above 60 years old, body-wise more on the skinny side. For the clothing, I will keep it relatively simple, having a big portion of his body exposed, to showcase my anatomy skills.  As for the style of the character, I will be going for realism. To show the falling into sin aspect, I will be inducing that by having parts of him decaying.
As a stretch goal, and if I have enough time left,  I will try to make the cut wings as well, as separate objects.
This is the mood board I will be taking inspiration from for this character:

Texturing the Angel

Since the Angel's character doesn't have that many clothing pieces or accessories, I had more time to focus on the skin and getting...
